Sonakshi Sinha gained popularity and caught the limelight with quite a breeze because of two major reasons, first being the daughter of the actor Shatrughan Sinha, second was starring in her debut opposite to Salman Khan in Dabbang. But none the less becoming a candy to camera is not an easy task especially for those who don’t initially fit into conventional standards of beauty. Sadly being skinny is one of them. But why does this relate to Sonakshi? You might be wondering by now, well this is because prior to entering the Bollywood industry and bewitching the world with her beauty, talent and innocent face, there was quite something about her that made her unfit for the camera and strayed her away from beauty standards- She weighed almost 90 Kgs! Oh no that’s no exaggeration but that doesn’t define her as well.
Sonakshi made a hallmark for perseverance and determination. She lost almost 30 Kgs before entering the Bollywood industry but that didn’t happen overnight. She followed routines and plans with a combination of motivation and vigorous self-control. So what were those routines and diet plans (so that we can get an insight for our fitness as well) that made her let go off that extra weight and get so fit, let’s tread over them.
What was her initial motivation?
The huge transformation from bulky to a hottie required her to let go of her unhealthy lifestyle and detrimental cravings. She had a love for junk food, laidback lifestyle and lack of exercise which led her to becoming plump. But thanks to the good old workout and diets plans she shed all the extra fat, as quoted by her, “It was a combination of proper diet and vigorous exercise that got me to the shape I am in now.”
It is also a true fact that plans don’t work until worked upon and for working upon them driving and motivational factors play a huge part. For her, that driving for was her co-star Salman Khan and she is thankful to him for seeing what she was capable of and stimulating her to stretch herself into reaching her potential. It was because of him that she lost 30 Kgs of weight for her first movie. “He saw potential in me and egged me on to lose weight. I would say his contribution was the highest as I started taking it seriously only after he told me to.” She says.
She never let mockery coming from people regarding her weight affect her. It “never really bothered” the actress as a child because her weight loss motivation “didn’t come from within.” If it hadn’t been for her inner provocation she would not even have considered a fit lifestyle as she was confident and comfortable in her skin as she was. She quotes, “If it hadn’t come from within, I wouldn’t have done it.” Once the inner voice pinched her, she began her weight loss journey.
The most important element- Sonakshi’s Exercise Regime
Gym is not an old friend to most people and Sonakshi was one of them. She despised it and was well aware of the fact that the workout and training “wasn’t going to be easy” but once she set her heart and mind into getting fit “there was no looking back” she says. The actress even hired Shahid Kapoor’s trainer to get into shape.
“It was not easy at all for somebody like me. I am the kind of person who hates the gym. I am allergic to the gym. I want to run away from it. But I think once I put my mind to something, I go out and achieve it, and I guess I did that.”
Her exercise routine encompasses:
- Visiting gym twice daily
- Playing tennis
- Cardio exercises
- Functional and weight training
- Hot yoga
What’s more surprising is that Sonakshi never checks on her weight!
“I don’t know how many kilos I lost, I don’t get on the scale. As long as I am feeling fit and I can feel myself toning up, looking thinner, then scale doesn’t really matter.”
The diet plan
It is always hard to fight cravings and scrumptious munches especially for the people who have love for food. Sonakshi had always been a foodie and for her to cut down her yearning for unhealthy food was just as difficult. In one of her interviews she quoted,
“Food is my first love. I never followed a diet that makes me cranky and unhappy. I believe I work too hard to deprive myself of the one thing I love the most- food! I eat regular food, but in lesser quantities than before. Eating small meals every 2 hours helps in keeping up the metabolism all day. I even binge sometimes. Who’s gonna stop me when there’s a brownie right in front of my eyes? But if I do, an extra 20 minutes on the treadmill is a must.”
Her food schedule consists of intakes for breakfast, mid-morning, lunch, evening and dinner.
- For breakfast she has milk and cereal with whole wheat toast.
- At mid-morning she takes a cup of green tea with dry fruits.
- For lunch she takes complete homemade food that includes roti, sabzi and salad.
- In the evening she takes either a fruit or a cup of tea.
- She take dinner quite early and goes by the rule of not taking any carbohydrates before 6 pm. And her intake for dinner includes chicken, fish, daal and sabzi.
Moreover, she drinks loads of water for constant hydration.
Now that she has gone through a long journey and reached her potential, that makes her well qualified to give fitness advice to her fans and fitness freaks, she says,
“Don’t expect results overnight. It took you months or years to pile on the kilos, what makes you think it will be gone in a few days? It is important to condition your mind and be patient during the process. Rather than dwelling on how much more you have to achieve, think of how far you have already come.”
Just about any spectator can be startled by beautiful figure and enchanting beauty, and looking at her maintaining and carrying it so well, it can be assessed that the hard work and determination she put in hasn’t for a bit gone to waste. And we are pretty sure that you would have gained some motivation for yourself to get fit and ideas how to get in to shape as well. Good luck to her and you!
